The remaining tickets to Poland are up for grabs
Some big matches take place in Group 4, 5 and 6 on Sunday. Iceland take on Montenegro, Russia face Portugal and FYR Macedonia play Czech Republic in three must-win matches to wrap up the weekend in style.
Group 4: Iceland vs. Montenegro / Sunday, 17:00 hrs in Reykjavik
This a do-or-die match for both sides – whoever wins is through to the final tournament in Poland.
There is also a chance that both Iceland and Montenegro could qualify, if the match ends in a draw.
The first-leg game between the two in November ended in a narrow Montenegrin victory (25:24), which means this match where everything is at stake should be a thriller.
Group 4 has proved to be one of the most exciting of the initial stage of the competition, with qualification going down to the wire.
Group 4: Serbia vs. Israel / Sunday, 18:30 hrs in Kraljevo
Serbia are in the unusual position of currently being ranked third in the group while they are actually safely through.
Even if they lose against Israel, which, given Israel’s tally of zero points, would seem an unlikely outcome, Serbia will qualify as the best third-ranked team of the qualification.
A win will, of course, also put Serbia through to the final tournament.
Group 5: Russia vs. Portugal / Sunday, 16:00 hrs in Moscow
Portugal have the chance to qualify for their first EHF EURO since 2006 on Sunday. But it is not just a win they need – they must finish the match with a six-goal advantage to take second spot on the table from Russia.
Russia are in a much more comfortable position ahead of the game, requiring only a draw – or even a loss by five goals or less – to book Group 5’s remaining place.
In their most recent match, on Wednesday, Portugal lost by just one goal against group leaders Hungary (25:26), which means they will be confident and motivated ahead of their rematch against Russia.
But the last time Portugal faced Russia they lost by five (29:34) – can they turn the tables in Moscow?
Group 6: FYR Macedonia vs. Czech Republic / Sunday, 17:45 hrs in Skopje
The stakes are high for both teams in this match: if one team wins outright they are through. But if the game ends in a draw either FYR Macedonia or Czech Republic could book the remaining Group 6 ticket to Poland – it will come down to the math and the away-goals rule.
Since the first-leg game between the two ended in a draw (27:27), an exciting rematch where both teams have everything to fight for can be expected.
Czech Republic are struggling with injuries at the moment however, with Filip Jicha playing through pain and Martin Galia out.
Group 7: Germany vs. Austria / Sunday, 15:15 hrs in Kiel
With both Group 7 spots in Poland already taken (Germany and Spain), this weekend’s matches can affect only final ranking.
Germany could still top the table if Finland miraculously overcome Spain, but it is most likely the Group 7 table will finish with the ranking unchanged.
Though Austria will present a challenge, Germany are the favourites ahead of this match.
