Hungary, France take sixth win in sixth qualifier

EHF EURO defending champions France as well as Hungary have finished their EHF EURO 2016 Qualification campaigns with an unbeaten record of six wins in six matches when they won their final qualifiers against Switzerland and Ukraine respectively on Sunday.

Group 5: Hungary vs. Ukraine 32:28 (15:14)

It was once more Richard Bodo, who had already been the top scorer in Wednesday’s match against Portugal (26:25), who led the Hungarians to their sixth win in their sixth match of this qualification, as he scored nine times against Ukraine.

For Ukraine it was the third match lost within four days after they had already conceded defeats against Russia on Wednesday and Thursday. Ukraine finish the EHF EURO 2016 Qualification without having gained one point.

Hungary led throughout the entire match, however, Ukraine's resisted stronger than expected and hence the match's rundown was entirely different to the first leg that Hungary had won 32:20.

But wven eight goals of Roman Chychykalo were not enough for Ukraine to grant them their first point in this competition.

At 22:18 in the 46th minute the hosts led by four goals for the first time, and when they still were ahead by three goals in the 57th minute (29:26) the match was decided in Hungary's favour.

Group 6: France vs. Switzerland 31:23 (19:9)

The current world, EHF EURO and Olympic champions had no problems to conclude their EHF EURO 2016 Qualification with an unbeaten record of six wins in six matches.

As they counted again - after he had been absent in Wednesday's qualifier against Czech Republic - on current World Handball Player Nikola Karabatic, France had sealed the deal already at the break when they led 19:9.

Switzerland end campaign with zero points – despite eight goals of top scorer Andy Schmid on Sunday, who was responsible for more than one third of his team's goals.

France played smarter, more skilful and were more experienced as they took the points with ease.

In the second half they led by ten goals or more for almost the entire time, and it was only at the end that Switzerland reduced the gap slightly.

Best French scorers were Mickael Guigou (6) as well as Luka Karabatic and Timothey N’Guessan (5 goals each).
