Spain beat Finland to finish top of Group 7

Spain have finished the EHF EURO 2016 Qualification on top of Group 7 with a convincing 39:16 win against Finland on Sunday.

Slovenia won their final qualifiier in equally convincing fashion 37:20 against Latvia.

Group 3: Slovenia vs. Latvia 37:20 (18:11)

Despite ten goals of Aivis Jurdzs, Latvia were left without a chance in Velenje as they were literally overrun by their opponents.

At 11:6 the distance stood at five goals for the first time, at the break seven goals (18:11) separated the two teams, and at 23:13 in the 39th minute the gap had risen to ten goals.

The remaining match was a show of pure dominance by Slovenia, while Latvia had surrendered to their fate.

The biggest gap was reached with 19 goals at 37:18 in the 57th minute. Slovenian top scorer was Gasper Marguc with five goals.

Despite this clear win, Slovenia finish Group 3 in second position. Latvia remain ranked third and on four points which they gained from two wins against Slovakia.

Group 7: Spain vs. Finland 39:16 (21:9)

In the last match of Mikael Källman as Finland head coach, his team was without a chance against the Spanish 2013 world champions.

After only eleven minutes and at 10:3 for Spain the deal was literally sealed in favour of the hosts. The win also means that Spain end up being ranked first in Group 7.

Eventually all Spanish court players found their names on the scoreboard – and even defence specialist Viran Morros hit the back of the net once.

After 34 minutes Spain led by 15 goals (25:10), with five minutes left to play even 20 goals separated the two teams in this one-sided match.

Perez and Goni were the top scorers for Spain with five goals each. Richard Sundberg scored four times for Finland.
