National champions of Europe - Women Part 6: South-East

The domestic leagues have come to an end and we now approach the draws of the 2015/16 European season, starting with the Women's EHF Champions League draw on 26 June.

In six parts, the spotlight is shone on each of the national champions and their path to glory. The last part consists of teams from Cyprus, Greece, Turkey.

Cyprus - AS Latsia

It all boiled down to a final match day showdown for the Cypriot championship.

AS Latsia, who only needed a draw to secure the title against last year’s champions EN Athienou, eventually got away with both the victory and the trophy, after winning 22:20 in the 12th and last game of the season.

It was the second time this season that AS Latsia defeated EN Athienou in a game to win a title. The first was the Super Cup match in November that Latsia won 30:23. This was their second Super Cup title in a row and the 2014/15 championship title the eighth in the club’s history.

Greece - OF Nea Ionia

The girls of OF Nea Ionia dominated this season’s Greek women’s handball, after winning both the Championship title and the Cup.

The Athenians won the fifth final of the play-offs to make it 3:2 against Ormi Lux and defended their title, after having won the Cup earlier in the season against PAOK.

This was the first double in the club’s history, but their second consecutive championship title and the third cup victory in the last five years.

Turkey - Yenimahalle BSK

The team led by Turkish handball star Yeliz Özel could not have been more successful this season, winning all three Turkish titles on offer.

Yenimahalle BSK can call the Super cup, the Turkish cup and the Super League cup their own in the 2014/15 season after beating the defending champions Muratpasa Belediye SK in the final matches.

Israel - HC Holon

HC Holon coached by Aura Friedman met Bnei Hertzeliya in the play-off finals for the Israeli championship.

The first match ended 31:27 for the hosts from Holon but in the second match HC had to take a 35:23 beating.

The third match decided the championship. HC Holon won 31:24 and celebrated the trophy together with their fans.
