High-scoring win for Germany, surprise exit of Sweden

The Junior World Championship in Brazil will see a duel between current world on the one side and current European champions on the other side, after Denmark and Germany won their respective quarter-finals on Wednesday.

Denmark, the current youth world champions, beat Spain in a closely fought encounter 22:21 (10:12), while no less than 80 goals were scored in Germany's, the current Men's 20 EHF EURO champions, 43:37 win against Belarus.

The second semi-final will be played between France and Egypt, the only non-European team left in the competition.

While France had no problems solving their quarter-final task against Romania and eventually recorded a 30:20 win, Egypt beat the much fancied Swedes 28:27, and there is hope among the team's players that the Scandinavians were not their last "victims."

"Today it was the team spirit that got us the win," said Egypt's Mohab Hossam Mohamed after the game to the IHF. "It was nothing tactical or technical, just our spirit. We will have a much-needed rest day and then look forward to the semi-final. We can win this tournament."

The semi-finals will be played at 15:30 hrs (DEN vs GER) and 18:00 hrs (FRA vs EGY) local time on Friday, 31 July.

A live stream is available via the official website.
