Young journalists prepare for W17 EHF EURO
Under the banner of ‘Let’s Play Handball’ a group of 30 young media volunteers from 15 countries are busy preparing to cover the 12th edition of the Women’s 17 EHF European Championship taking place in Skopje from 13-23 August 2015.
Organised by the Mladiinfo International, the Sport Reporting Volunteering Project has brought together a group of young people and offer them experience in a range of media roles including journalism, photography, TV production, video editing, website editing and social media.
The team is also coordinated by two editors-in-chief – volunteers who are more experienced in media and have a background in handball.
The project’s aim is to give the championship a greater visibility and thereby tackle the challenges of lack of interest among young people in sports and lack of professional training for young people during their studies.
Training with support from EHF
Before the championship workshops have been planned in sports journalism training as well as a web content management.
At the time of the championship, a workshop in sports photo journalism will also take place, led by the experienced handball photographer, Uros Hocevar, who has worked on numerous major championships for the EHF.
The pre-event programme was also supported by the EHF, with Thomas Schöneich from the federation’s Media and Communications Department offering participants an insight into sports reporting at major events.
For the 30 volunteers taking part in the 40-day project, the programme offers an amazing opportunity not only for professional, but also for personal development, enhancing their intercultural and language skills.
They will be supported by a team of a further 10 volunteers helping them to adjust to the new environment, mentoring them and contributing to the facilitation of the project activities.
