#BeActive for the European Open Day of Handball

7 to 13 September 2015 marks the first European Week of Sports, initiated by the European Commission, and the European Handball Federation has decided to join in, calling for a "European Open Day of Handball" to promote the sport.

The #BeActive campaign aims to promote sport and physical activity across Europe. The week is for everyone, regardless of age, background or fitness level. With a focus on grassroots initiatives, it will inspire Europeans to get moving on a regular basis and create opportunities in peoples’ everyday lives to exercise more.

Get involved

Over two million participants in 30 countries have been confirmed for registered events so far and the handball community is encouraged to rise to the occasion by showcasing the sport in a variety of ways.

Apart from open club days, festivals around matches and tournaments, mini or beach handball activities, handball clinics and much more, the EHF has also suggested to include the successful "Scoremore Crossbar Challenge" into the scheme of activities.

The challenge is simple, as participants have to take two shots from six metres, two from nine and two from the halfway line and hit the crossbar as often as they can – the challenge also featured at this year’s VELUX EHF FINAL4 in Cologne.

All activities can be organised on any handball court in- and outdoors with adapted court and goals sizes and distances.

Traction for the campaign is beginning to build with support guaranteed by the German, Hungarian, Austrian and Greek federations, who all plan to use various handball activities to engage with the public, and there is still plenty of time to play a part in this special week.

Register your event here and join the rest of the European handball community in being active and inspiring people to get moving. For more information head to http://ec.europa.eu/sport/week.
