2015 EHF Scientific Conference a resounding success

There was definitely no shortage of interesting topics when scientists and sport medicine experts from across Europe gathered in Budapest last weekend for the third edition of the EHF Scientific Conference.

The event's focus was on medical aspects in handball, involvong the preparation as well as the game itself. 26 topics were presented by speakers, who came from as far as Japan, and another 12 topics were furthermore presented in the form of posters.

Following some introductory words by EHF President Jean Brihault as well as by Jerzy Eliasz, Chairman of the EHF Methods Commission, two key notes kicked off the conference.

Orthopaedic surgeon Lior Laver talked about "The importance and merits of scientific collaborations in the handball world – it's a team sport!" while mentioned Javier Sobrino from Span, who has actively been involved in the staging of the EHF Champions Cup on the island of Gran Canaria, touched on beach handball as market trend and lifestyle sport.

The patronage for the conference was taken over by ESSKA, the European Society for Sports Traumatology, and two its members, orthopaedic surgeon Romain Seil and the aforementioned Laver, chaired the conference's medical mini-symposium on handball injuries, prevention and return to sport.

On the second day there was a focus on shoulder injuries as well as an overview of other injuries sustained in handball and their epidemiology, management and the return to sport.

"This unique multidisciplinary conference was of extremely high quality, even exceeding any of our initial expectations," Laver said at the end of the conference.

"It was a great pleasure and a special opportunity to be part of this fruitful collaboration between ESSKA and the EHF."
