19-year-old keeper Gade helps Holstebro to opening win

Team Tvis Holstebro opened the EHF Cup Group Phase by winning 34:31 at home against Frisch Auf Göppingen in Group B Wednesday night. The 19-year-old goalkeeper Simon Gade played a deciding part in the surprising win by the team from Denmark.

Team Tvis Holstebro were missing injured goalkeeper Jonas Hansen for the opening match in the EHF Cup Group Phase.

However, this turned out to be no handicap as 19-year-old Simon Gade turned out to be an excellend replacement, helping his team to the three-goal win.

The match was played at a high pace all the way, and after the lead had changed several times during the equal first half, Holstebro started the last 30 minutes by taking a four-goal lead.

Göppingen came back and got ahead 30:29.

But partly thanks to Gade in goal, Holstebro was the better team at the end and silenced the 40 enthusiastic Göppingen fans who had made the long journey from the south of Germany to the north western part of Denmark.

“We got a good start, and that calmed down our nerves. Furthermore, we managed to keep a cool head in the hectic last minutes,” said Team Tvis Holstebro top scorer, right wing Patrick Wiesmach, who scored 10 goals from 11 attempts.
