Kim Rasmussen takes over Hungarian women’s national team

One week after winning the Women’s EHF Champions League with CSM Bucuresti Kim Rasmussen announced that he will be the next coach of the Hungary's women’s national team.

Rasmussen had it made known in March that he will not renew his contract with the Polish federation after he had led the women's team to the World Championship Semi-finals in 2013 and 2015.

Soon after winning the EHF Champions League with CSM Bucuresti the Dane also declared that he will not be staying in Romania either.

It was known that Rasmussen was approached by the Danish and the Swedish federation alongside with the Hungarian federation. Rasmussen signed a four-year contract and his most important goal is to lead Hungary - after they missed out on the Rio 2016 event - to the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokio.

However, the next next challenges are much closer as Hungary still have to secure their qualification for the Women's EHF EURO 2016 in Sweden. Currently they top Group 5 with six points and face first Slovakia and then Finland in Rounds 5 and 6 at the beginning of June.

Rasmussen's predecessor Andras Nemeth stepped down after Hungary bowed out in the Last 16 of the World Championship 2015 after they had lost - coincidentally - against Kim Rasmussen's Polish side.

In Rounds 3 and 4 of the Women's EHF EURO 2016 Qualification Hungary were led on an interim basis by Györi Audi ETO KC coach Ambros Martin and his FTC Rail-Cargo Hungaria counterpart Gabor Elek - again the opponents were Kim Rasmussen's Poland and Hungary won the away game but lost at home.

Kim Rasmussen will not have a second in a Hungarian club but will work as a full-time national team coach.
