MATCH REVIEW: Russia open the last day of EHF EURO 2016 Qualification matches with a win against Turkey.
Unbeaten Russia storm through EURO Qualification
An outstanding performance from every player on court earned Russia their sixth and final win of the EHF EURO 2016 Qualification Phase when Round 6 continued on Sunday.
The victory means Russia join France as the only teams to finish with six wins from six matches in the qualification phase.
Turkey finish qualification with two points after one home win against Portugal, in Round 4.
GROUP 6:
Russia vs Turkey 37:25 (21:14)
Turkey took the lead initially before Russia claimed control after five minutes when Kseniya Makeeva scored her third goal, giving the hosts their first lead at 4:3.
Already it was a fast-paced attacking game – and by the final whistle almost every player on both start lists would contribute to the high-scoring match.
Russia slowly increased their advantage with strong defence, deflecting the shooting frenzy from their visitors.
At half-time they had controlled Turkey enough to hold a seven-goal lead, but still more than 30 goals had already been scored in the game.
Turkey were first on the board in the second half, but even seven goals from the top scorer of the game, Betül Yilmaz, and six from Serpil Iskenderoglu were not enough for the guests to come close to levelling the score.
With more than half of their squad scoring three goals or more, Russia cruised home to a 12-goal win and claimed their last set of two points.
