'Stop! Handball time!' - Lekic hosts summer camp in Serbia

Andrea Lekic handball camp was back for the fourth time this June. After three successful camps, with last year’s taking place in Macedonian town Ohdrid, Andrea took her team of 20 people and more than 100 participants to Ruma, a town located 60 kilometres from her native city of Belgrade, to enjoy fun and quality training throughout the seven day-long camp.

Despite currently recovering from an injury sustained at the Women’s EHF FINAL4, Andrea worked tirelessly to bring the girls and boys an unforgettable experience. The best proof of its success is seeing young players from all over Europe returning year after year.

“We will try and showcase what we can do in these seven days, and how many handball elements we can improve. We want to give the kids some guidelines on how to be better.

“A large number of participants are back for the fourth year, which is very pleasing. A huge confirmation of what we have accomplished is also the fact that 10 countries are represented here,” said Andrea at the start of her camp.

Celebrate handball the Lekic way

The charismatic playmaker has put social media to a great use, over the seven days. Her Facebook feed was live each day, showcasing the training, matches and of-court activities, such as singing, dancing and swimming; as well as skills training with her many guests, which, this year included the likes of the legendary Serbian right wing Zikica Milosavljevic and her Vardar teammate Anja Althaus.

The jovial line player Althaus entertained the group with her singing and it seems she is improving her Macedonian and Serbian as well.

The camp was a complete handball experience. The training were conducted by a trusted team of coaches, including Andrea’s very own childhood coach, and a Serbian youth coaching expert Vesna Bojkovic.

In charge of the physical side of things was Vardar’s head of fitness Marija Lojanica, while another Serbian legend Branka Jovanovic worked with the goalkeepers.

The camp was supported by Andrea’s many friends, including Dragana Cvijic and Katarina Tomasevic, who took part in the activities, and were happy to give advice to the eager youngsters.

“It is a great privilege to work with the kids. We gathered a great team of coaches, people devoted to handball, who are able to pass their knowledge to all participants during these seven days.

“Our great dedication and hard work were apparent when we filled all spaces in less than a month, which serves as a motivation to do better and give them more than in any of the previous years.

“It is our goal to live handball every day. It is the most wonderful sport there is, and this camp is celebration of handball,” concluded Lekic.
