OFFICIAL STATEMENT: The failure to send a key player to the Men's EHF EURO 2018 Qualication Draw in April has resulted in a suspended fine for the German Handball Federation
Suspended fine for German Handball Federation
The EHF Court of Handball has reached a decision in proceedings launched against the German Handball Federation due to the absence of a key player at the Men’s EHF EURO 2018 Qualification Draw which took place in Dubrovnik on 14 April 2016.
The Court of Handball finds in substance that the national federation did not meet the obligation set forth in particular in Article 42.3 of the EHF EURO Qualification Regulations.
Nevertheless, mitigating circumstances have been taken into consideration, such as the fact that a genuine willingness and positive attitude was displayed to find a player, the fact that the draw took place parallel to a German Handball Bundesliga match day and the fact that the national federation informed the EHF in due time that no player could be available, which enabled the EHF to find another player.
Hence, a suspended fine €1.000 (one thousand Euros) is imposed on the national federation for a probation period of two years.
The decision may be appealed with the EHF Court of Appeal within seven days.
