Quarter-finals throw off with seven European teams still in the mix
The Women's Junior World Championship in Russia has become almost an entire European affair as the tournament reached the quarter-finals.
Seven European teams find themselves among the last 8, including Denmark, Russia and Sweden, the medallists at last year's Women's 19 EHF EURO 2015.
The only non-European team left in the competition is Korea who will take on Germany this Tuesday, 12 July at 18:30 hrs local time. In the Last 16 Germany beat the Netherlands 28:27, while Korea, winners of the Junior World Championship two years ago, beat Angola 29:27.
In the second quarter-final at 18:30 hrs, tournament hosts Russia face Norway. Russia entered the quarter-final with a convincing 31:20 win against Argentina and Norway beat Brazil 30:23.
At 20:45 hrs local time Sweden play against Denmark and Croatia face Romania. In the Last 16 Sweden dominated Spain and beat them 29:13; Denmark had the upper hand against France, 35:18.
Croatia had a much tougher battle to fight in the Last 16, but eventually they beat Hungary 26:25. Romania's game against Japan was equally close, 32:31.
All quarter-finals are streamed on the Russian Handball Federation's Youtube channel.
The semi-finals are scheduled for 14 July, the final for 15 July. For more information, visit the IHF website and download the playing schedule.
