Romania, Russia, Denmark, Germany reach semis at Junior World Championship

While quarter-finals are usually an exciting affair, there was extra dose of excitement in Russia at the Women's Junior World Championship when Germany took on Korea on Tuesday.

Korea still led 16:14 at half-time, but by the 60-minute mark Germany had levelled the game at 26:26. Neither the first, nor the second extra time decided a winner, so the shoot-out became necessary.

The German players all showed nerves of steel, while one Korean did not convert - enough for Germany to secure a much-celebrated 38:37 win.

Germany now meet tournaments hosts Russia in the semi-final on Thursday. Russia, who came second at the Women's 19 EHF EURO 2015, beat Norway 35:24 in their quarter-final.

The second semi-final will take place between Romania and Denmark, the winners of the Women's 19 EHF EURO 2015.

Denmark had relatively few problems to ease past Sweden. At half-time the match was levelled at 7:7, but in the second half the Danes forged ahead and won 22:15.

Romania had a tougher game against Croatia, eventually winning 21:20.

Both semi-finals on Thursday will be streamed on the Russian Handball Federation's Youtube channel.
