Turkish Handball Federation fined

The EHF Court of Handball has released a decision in a case against the Turkish Handball Federation opened for multiple violations of the host broadcaster minimum requirements within the organisation of the Women’s EHF EURO 2016 qualifier Turkey vs Denmark on 1 June 2016.

The Turkish federation did not provide a sufficient number of cameras, did not ensure the availability of slow motions, did not include TV graphics fitting the requirements and did not provide a clean sound.

Due to these violations, the away rights holder could not use the TV signal provided by the Turkish federation and had to undertake all necessary steps to produce their own TV signal in order to be able to broadcast the match.

Furthermore, a year ago, the Turkish federation had received a reminder from the EHF as similar infringements occured during the organisation of a Men's EHF EURO 2016 qualifier.

The aforementioned obligations are set forth in particular in the “Minimum Requirements for TV Host Broadcasters” applicable in accordance with Article 40 of the EHF EURO Qualification Regulations.

Hence, the Court of Handball decciedes to impose a fine of €24,000 on the Turkish Federation in accordance with Article D.1 f) of the EHF List of Penalties. Half of this fine is imposed on a suspended basis with a probation period of two years as of the date of the present decision.

Furthemore, in accordance with Articles 8.1 and 12.4 of the EHF List of Penalties, the Turkish Handball Federation shall pay €12,500 to compensate the loss suffered by the EHF caused by the multiple violations., i.e. the impossibility for the away right holder to use the TV signal.

An appeal may be filed with the EHF Court of Appeal within seven days.​
