The new EHF Executive Committee held its first regular meeting during the final weekend of the Women’s EHF EURO 2016 in Sweden
 

First meeting for EHF Executive Committee in Sweden

Following the election of the new EHF Executive Committee, the body held its first meeting on the fringes of the championship’s final weekend in Gothenburg, Sweden on Friday 16 December 2016.

The meeting opened with an official welcome from the Swedish Handball Federation, represented by the federation’s Vice President, Jürgen Holmqvist.

The two new members now joining the Executive were welcomed following their election at the meetings of the Women’s Handball Board and Professional Handball Board the day previously.

Representing the Women’s Handball Board, it was confirmed that Narcisa Lecusanu (ROU) will serve for the first two years and Nodjialem Myaro (FRA) for the second two-year period.

Xavier O’Callaghan (ESP) joins the Executive representing the Professional Handball Board.

New secretary general to be appointed

Following a review and follow-up to the topics raised at Congress and also the 21 meetings held around the event, the Executive discussed the vacant secretary general’s position and agreed a timetable for appointing a new person by March 2017.

The Executive agreed a profile for the new appointment and will begin recruiting before the end of 2016. The role of the new secretary general will include the coordination of EHF internal processes as well as providing a link to the national federations. There was common agreement that the ideal candidate would need have an understanding of and/or background in handball.

ebt Finals awarded

The venue for the final round of the European Beach Handball Tour (ebt Finals) was confirmed and will take place in Gaeta, Italy – venue for the first European Beach Handball Championships in 2000. The event will take place 2 to 4 June 2017 on Serapo Arena Beach (100 km from Naples, 160 km from Rome).

Defending champions to host EHF Cup Finals

Based on bids from both Berlin and Göppingen for the hosting of the 2017 edition of the Men's EHF Cup Finals, the decision was reached that the defending champions, Frisch Auf Göppingen, would play host to the next edition of the competition’s final weekend on 20-21 May 2017 in Göppingen, Germany. The hosting of the event is subject to further contract negotiations with the event's organiser, EHF Marketing GmbH.

EHF EURO 2016/2018 and 2020

The Executive confirmed that a review would take place of the current EHF EURO 2016 in Sweden, with a report to be made at the next meeting scheduled for March.

The meeting also looked ahead to the next EHF EURO 2018 events in Croatia (men) and women (France). It was also confirmed that meetings had taken place during the Women’s EHF EURO in Sweden between the organisers of the Men’s EHF EURO 2020: Sweden, Austria and Norway.

Other business

The internal working systems and structures were confirmed including the tasks of the Finance, Technical and Legal Delegations. It was also confirmed that the Technical Refereeing Committee (TRC) would continue and that nominations would be sought from the national federations.

18 new delegates passed the course during the EHF EURO in Sweden and were confirmed by the Executive and a motion regarding the points system for the Young Age Category competitions was agreed.

Finally, the Executive agreed to a plan for the nominations of the commitee's members to official events in 2017.
