NEWS REPORT: The International Handball Federation has awarded the Women's World Championships in 2021 and 2023, with the 2021 event being hosted by Spain and the trio of Denmark, Norway and Sweden hosting the event in 2023
Future Women's World Championships go to Spain and Denmark/Norway/Sweden
The Women's World Championship will step onto new territory come 2023.
In that year's December, the Women's World Championship will be hosted for the first time by three countries: Denmark, Norway and Sweden. The Women's World Championship 2021 will take place in Spain.
The International Handball Federation awarded both events at its council meeting on the final weekend of the Men's World Championship 2017 in France.
All future organisers have experience in staging major handball events. Spain organised the Men's World Championship 2013. Denmark, most recently, staged the Men's EHF EURO 2014.
Norway and Denmark will also be the co-hosts of the Women's EHF EURO 2020, just like they were in 2010.
It was only in December that Sweden hosted the Women's EHF EURO 2016. They also organised the Men's World Championship 2011 and will be co-hosts of the Men's EHF EURO 2020 together with Austría and Norway, the first European Championship to take place in three countries, as well as of the Men's World Championship 2023 together with Poland.
The next Women's World Championships will take place in Germany (2017) and Japan (2019).
