Two Group A ties marked for MOTW Round 13 and 14

The Match of the Week for VELUX EHF Champions League Round 13 and 14 have been confirmed and we have two mouth-watering clashes in store.

A classic tie between German THW Kiel and Spanish FC Barcelona Lassa which brings with it a long history of epic head-to-heads is the stand-out clash for Round 13.

A week later we make our way to Veszprem yet again for a MOTW as Xavier Sabate's men host their to-be coach Ljubomir Vranjes and his SG Flensburg side.

THW Kiel come into this tie having lost three of their last four VELUX EHF Champions League Group A ties in the Sparkassen Arena - only picking up a point at home to Polish outfiit Wisla Plock (24:24) in December. Group A leaders Barcelona, on the other hand, will look to maintain their almost perfect run; recording only one slip up against PSG (33:26) back in November of last year.

Ahead of the tie ehfTV commentator for MOTW 13, Chris O'Reilly, gave his opinion on the match:

“Two of Europe’s most successful clubs clash with new-look squads, which have experienced highly contrasting fortunes so far this season.

“Everyone at Kiel must be scratching their heads, wondering how to end this poor run of form at home and it won’t be easy against a Barcelona side enjoying the ride and taking every big match in their stride.

“The Catalan side look like favourites based on form, but Kiel are Kiel, and you can never count out the Zebras. Just look at what they did to Barcelona last season in the quarter-finals,” concluded O'Reilly.

Match of the Week Round 14: Veszprem vs SG Flensburg, live on ehfTV.com
Saturday, 11.03.17 at 17:30 (CET)

Two sides which have experienced their fair share of erratic form in Europe this season; but both will be hungry for full points which could end up being crutial in the final standings.

ehfTV commentator for MOTW 14 Tom Ó Brannagáin give his thoughts on Round 14's highlight match:

"This is essentially the battle for third spot in Group A. Veszprem seem to have overcome the hiccough in the middle of the season with back to back victories, one, their first away at Kiel, although one has to question the quality of that after Kiel surprise loss to Silkeborg.

"On the other hand, Flensburg have lost two quality games against PSG and Barcelona. They could have taken points in either of these games.
This game has the added spice of bringing together the coach the will replace the current incumbent at Veszprem.

"Flensburg will play their way; fast and aggressive and Veszprem will need to be quick in their defensive changes. Veszprem may welcome back some injured players and with the incredible home crowd the team will be pushed on."
