Györ secure first place with easy win against Esbjerg
«Go back »Print Version

GROUP 2 REVIEW: With their tenth win of the season, Györ secured first place in group 2 as the Hungarian side won clearly against Esbjerg, 33:22.

Györ secure first place with easy win against Esbjerg

An underwhelming performance from both Larvik and CSM in the first 10 games of the season meant that Györ could seal top spot in the group with a win against the Danes.

The Hungarian side did not disappoint though and fought off the Danish team after just 10 minutes building an unassailable lead to secure first place in the group, thanks to a 10-goal win (33:22).

  • A 70% scoring efficiency lifted Györ to their 10th win of the season as the Hungarian powerhouse became the first team to reach that milestone
  • Anita Görbicz and Eduarda Amorim were Györ’s top scorers with six goals each

GROUP 2

Györi ETO Audi KC (HUN) vs Team Esbjerg (DEN) 33:22 (17:11)

With Györ having only had just difficult game on their home court - the 27:27 draw against Larvik three weeks ago - they were clear favourites against Esbjerg, and the Hungarian side gave their fans a win with authority.

Esbjerg managed to keep the rhythm with Györ for just 10 minutes as the home side found their groove, but when they did it was an exact defence and a 74% shot efficiency in the attack that were their main weapons in the first half, as a 6:1 scoring between the 8th and the 20th minutes was the key for the win.

Nora Mørk and Yvette Broch were nearly unstoppable in offence with the Hungarian defence bringing what was needed to the table to stop their opponents at the other end.

No chance for Esbjerg in the second half

It was no surprise that Györ rode that goal difference until half-time, as their 17:11 lead set them up to finish the job in the second half.

With Esbjerg only having 11 outfield players and a goalkeeper at their disposal, it was only a matter of time until Györ took advantage and emerged as winners.

The lead kept on growing with the help of Eduarda Amorim and Broch, as Györ hit the back of the net from the nine-metre line and counter-attacks to establish a 29:19 lead, with 11 minutes to go.

The side from Denmark could only score three times in the last 11 minutes as Györ continued to pounce, before finishing up with a 11-goal win - another convincing game for Martin Ambros’ side.

The result means that his side won the group with one game remaining, Larvik placing second and CSM Bucuresti and Krim battling it out in the last round for third.

After another loss, Esbjerg are still last in the group and will leapfrog Krim only if they win against CSM in the last round and Krim loses against FCM.
