Beyond 2020: EHF details bidding process for EHF EUROs 2022/24

The European Handball Federation has published its ‘EHF Bid Code’, a detailed document outlining the bidding process for the EHF EURO events in 2022 and 2024.

For the first time, the ‘Bid Code’ is accompanied by a shorter, publicly available, ‘Bid Brochure’ and an official bidding website, ‘Beyond 2020’, adding transparency to the bidding process and giving current and future stakeholders, partners, sponsors, the media as well as fans an insight into one of Europe’s biggest indoor sport events.

“We have set out the EHF’s visions for the EHF EUROs in 2022 and 2024 and offer bidding nations an insight into the standards and expectations of organising a major international sports event,” says EHF President Michael Wiederer.

“Through continuous development and investment, the EHF has succeeded in creating a competition format that is both attractive and appealing to players, the media, sponsors and partners as well as fans. Each event is followed by billions around the world on TV, our digital reach is growing exponentially and we can guarantee the sale of hundreds of thousands of tickets for every event.

“We believe that this success also points to the huge potential for the future. From 2020, we will see the Men’s EHF EURO expand to 24 teams. This is a pivotal moment and marks a huge step forward for us as we expand into new markets and create a truly pan-European competition.

“To reach this potential we are looking for strong partners and innovative bids that will create a ‘handball buzz’ around the world,” underlines Michael Wiederer.

Dates set for EHF EUROs in 2022 and 2024

There is a high interest among the members of the European Handball Federation to host the Men’s EHF EUROs in 2022 and 2024.

13 different nations have expressed an interest to host the flagship event for Europe's men's national teams with some of them expressing a joint interest together with other nations.

It had been mandatory to hand in an explicit expression of interest until 1 May 2017. The following nations have done this:
