Court of Handball fines FTC-Rail Cargo Hungaria

The Court of Handball has released its decision in a case opened against the club FTC-Rail Cargo Hungaria following incidents having taken place during the Women’s EHF Champions League 2016/17 Quarter-Finals second leg match: FTC-Rail Cargo Hungaria (HUN) vs. CSM Bucuresti (ROU) played on 15 April 2017.

At the 44”56 minute of the match, various items were thrown on the playing court (e.g. plastic cup with beer, coins) next to the goalkeeper from the opposing team. It provoked a match interruption for several minutes

The deciding panel underlined that as host, the club had full responsibility as regards the safety and security to be ensured at all times and must be held responsible for the behaviour of its spectators.

A fine of €7,000 is therefore imposed on the club, part of it (€2,000) is deferred for a probationary period of two years. To define the type and extent of this measure, the panel took into consideration, on the one hand, the fact that the club had been sanctioned for similar infringements less than five years ago and, on the other hand, the fact that the club undertook further legal steps to obtain the exclusion of the concerned spectator.

An appeal may be filed with the Court of Appeal within 7 days.
