Competitions in Portugal and Serbia headline penultimate weekend

The European Beach Tour 2017 has almost reached its end, with just one tournament remaining on the calendar, to be played this Saturday and Sunday in Serbia.

Serbia also played host to one of the competitions held over the penultimate weekend, the AVIA Beach Handball Tournament in Backa Palanka. The tournament was contested between 12 teams from Serbia, Croatia and Bulgaria, with six in each the men’s and women’s competitions.

Despite soaring temperatures of over 42°C, the competition showcased an exceptional standard of beach handball on the banks of the Danube. Fans will soon be able to enjoy the matches on the official YouTube channel, where they will remain available for viewing.

The men’s title at the AVIA Beach Handball Tournament was won by Croatian side Detono Zagreb, who ranked first ahead of Serbian teams Precka Breaks and BHC 2areg. The MVP was Nikola Agic, best goalkeeper was Nikola Cirovic, and Ivan Juric finished as top scorer.

The women’s competition saw a Serbian champion, with BHC 2areg raising the trophy. Croatian team WBHC Kontesa Nera ranked second and Bulgarian HC Panagurishte placed third.

Nika Miletic from Kontesa Nera was awarded MVP, while 2areg celebrated both the best goalkeeper and top scorer – Jovana Jankovic and Zorica Marinkov, respectively.
