EHF Scientific Conference brings together top handball scientists

Launched for the first time in 2011 following an initiative of former EHF Methods Commission Chairman Frantisek Taborsky, the EHF Scientific Conference will be staged for the fourth time on 17/18 November in Vienna.

Entitled “Scientific Approach to the Player’s Environment – From Participation to the Top”, the conference’s goal is to bring professional and scientific experts together in order to reflect on all aspects related to the player’s environment (such as health science, training science and technology support), as well as to continue the acquisition of knowledge about medical aspects in our sport.

“With over thirty speakers and three focal points – medical, physiological, and biomechanical, we once again immerse ourselves in a number of academic approaches aimed at refining our understanding of the needs of the performance athlete,” says EHF President Michael Wiederer.

Follow from the outside

There will be extensive social media coverage throughout the conference. Live coverage and video interviews with selected speakers will be available on the EHF CAN Facebook page and on the EHF Media Twitter account.

Everyone can get involved in the online discussions, using the official hashtag, #ehfSC.

Key note speakers

The conference opens with four key notes that mirror this broad approach handball science.

Austrian psychiatrist, Michael Musalek, a member of the EHF Scientific Network, opens the conference with a key note on the theory and practice of ‘Social Aesthetics and Handball’.

Further key notes touch on injury study in beach handball conducted by German scientist Leonard Achenbach.

His Polish colleague, Piotr Kaczmarek, speaks about the ‘biomechanical profile of the sport shoulder’, while Susana Povoas refers to the ‘Handball4Health Project’.

The conference then features a plethora of presentations – in oral as well as in a poster format – from Europe’s best scientists, among them also members of the EHF Scientific Network who have been assisting in the conference’s organisation.

The conference has been organised by the following committee

  • Jerzy Eliasz EHF MC Chairman (POL)
  • Marta Bon EHF Methods Commission Member (SLO)
  • Lior Laver, ESSKA Basic Science Research Committee Board Member (ISR)
  • Przemysław Lubiatowski, Orthopaedic & Trauma Specialist in Rehasport Clinic (POL)
  • Helmut Höritsch, EHF CAN Coordinator (AUT)

assisted by the EHF Scientific Network
