«Go back »Print Version

The EHF Executive Commission met on the fringes of the Men’s EHF European Championship in Zagreb ahead of the final weekend

EHF EURO meeting for Executive Committee

The Croatian capital, Zagreb, was the venue for the latest scheduled meeting of the EHF Executive Committee, with the meeting taking place ahead of the final weekend of the Men’s EHF EURO 2018.

All eleven elected members of the Executive, together with EHF staff, gathered for their first full meeting of 2018.

The meeting opened with a review of the EHF EURO 2018 championship, with the EHF President, Michael Wiederer, praising the efforts of the Croatian Handball Federation in the successful organisation of the event so far.

Conference of Presidents

Preparations for the Conference of Presidents, which will take place on Saturday, 27 January were discussed.

The event will cover two topics that are key for the future of the federation, namely the ongoing media and marketing tender and changes to the EHF structure, which will be voted on at the EHF Congress in June in Glasgow, Scotland.

It was also noted that the organisational rights for the EHF EURO 2022 and 2024 would be decided at the Congress in Scotland.

Media and Marketing Tender

An update was provided on the negotiations with potential partners for the EHF’s long-term audio-visual and marketing rights.

Following a detailed analysis of the three final bids, including several rounds of talks and a final bidding round with the companies concerned, the Executive Committee agreed that negotiations should begin with Infront Sports & Media and Perform.

It was confirmed that the two remaining offers will be considered if an agreement cannot be reached.

Further details can be found in the related media release>>

Competition issues

Looking at EHF competitions, the Executive agreed to the proposed amendments to the regulations for the EHF EURO 2020 qualification phase 2, which will be played from October 2018 with 32 teams.

The meeting was informed that the EHF EURO 2020 draw will take place on the evening of 12 April 2018 in Trondheim, Norway.

Following a proposal from the EHF Competitions Commission, and as a result of a detailed study of the issues and the approach of other sports federations, measures were agreed for matches involving teams where geo-political situations may cause difficulties for the scheduling and carrying out of matches.

Women’s IHF/EHF Trophy awarded

It was agreed that Bosnia Herzegovina will organise the Women’s IHF/EHF Trophy from 29 May to 3 June 2018.

The competition will be played at under 18 level.

Cooperation with EUSA

The Executive confirmed the extension of the agreement that has been in place since 2013 with the European Universities Sports Association. This new development will see beach handball added to the EUSA programme and will include the potential organisation of an EUSA-EHF European Universities Beach Handball Championships in July 2019.

EHF EURO final weekend

The schedule of events for members of the EHF Executive continues into the final weekend at EHF EURO 2018.

The Conference of Presidents will take place on Saturday (27 January) morning, followed by the Closing Press Conference of the EHF EURO 2018, which takes place in Arena Zagreb from 16:00 hrs.

The draw for the 2019 World Championship Play-off Europe will take place at the conclusion of the press conference.

Live streaming of the event will be available on YouTube and the official event website.

Semi-final final and the 5/6 placement matches will be played on Friday, 26 January 2018 (15:00/18:00/20:30 hrs), with the finals scheduled for Sunday, 28 January 2018 (18:00/20:30 hrs).
