Georgian handball mourns death of Tamaz Tevzadze

The EHF has the sad task of reporting the death of Tamaz Tevzadze. A well-known figure both in his native Georgia and across European handball, Tevzadze worked for many years for the Georgian National Handball Federation and also served as Deputy Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs.

His long EHF career as a delegate began in the 1999/2000 season, with his last game as a match official in the Men’s EHF Cup in November 2017.

Commenting on his death, the EHF President, Michael Wiederer, said: “I have known Tamaz for a great many years, through his work for handball in Georgia as well as his presence at numerous EHF events in the past.

"His loss will be greatly felt by his many colleagues and friends across international handball and especially in Georgia, where he did so much for our sport.”

The Secretary General of the Georgian National Handball Federation, Ketevan Koberidze, said: “Tamaz will be deeply missed here, leaving behind now only those fond memories we have of him.

“Over the years, he worked hard to cherish handball and regardless of the challenges he may have had along the way, everyone who had ever had the privilege of working with him always found him a special pleasure to work with.

“Tamaz was such an extraordinary person. This is truly a great loss to us and to our big handball family as a whole. He will be profoundly missed by everyone whose lives he touched. Nevertheless, by his own last wishes, let us remember Tamaz each time, with a smile upon our faces.”

The staff and officials of the EHF join the whole of the European handball family in expressing their deepest condolences to the family and friends of Tamaz Tevzadze at this difficult time.
