Daniel Narcisse to wave goodbye to handball in June

At 38, French centre back Daniel Narcisse will retire from handball at the end of this season.

The Paris Saint-Germain captain already retired from international handball last May, after two EHF EURO 2018 qualifiers against Norway. But this time, he is waving goodbye to handball altogether.

On PSG’s official website, Narcisse says that informing his teammates in the locker room was quite a hard task.

"I am quite a shy person, I tend not to show my emotions," he says. "Talking about the team or other players has never been a problem for me, but when you are in the middle of the process, it is much harder. I had trouble finding the right words and it wasn’t an easy moment."

Among the most decorated players

Elected IHF World Handball Player of the Year in 2012, Narcisse is among the most decorated players in the history of the game. A two-time Olympic champion, four-time world champion and two-time winner of the EHF EURO, Narcisse has also lifted the VELUX EHF Champions League trophy twice, with THW Kiel in 2010 and 2012.

And after reaching the VELUX EHF FINAL4 three years in a row with Paris, Narcisse hopes he can finally lift the trophy with his last club this season. Paris will face PGE VIVE Kielce in the quarter-finals, with the first leg in Poland on 21 April and the return game in France on 28 April.

Even after retiring, Narcisse will remain with Paris Saint-Germain, whether as member of the staff or in another function: "We are still in talks with the club to define what will be my future role."
