NEWS REPORT: Four teams will learn their semi-final opponents at the Ottostadt Magdeburg EHF Cup Finals 2018 following the Wednesday's draw in the hosting city of the tournament.
Big draw day starts in Magdeburg
The last draw day in the 2017/18 club handball season will start in Magdeburg, Germany on Wednesday 2 May with the Men's Challenge Cup Final and the Ottostadt Magdeburg EHF Cup Finals draws before it concludes in Cologne with drawing of the lots for the semi-finals of the VELUX EHF FINAL4.
The Town Hall building in Magdeburg will first (at 10am local time) see how the home right in the Challenge Cup Final will be determined, however, only in case last season's runners-up Potaissa Turda will not make it to the final. If they do reach the competition's final, no draw will be needed as they hosted the second final leg in 2017 and according to the regulations they have to host the first leg in next final of any European Cup. The draw will be live on the European Handball Federation's Facebook page.
One hour later, the focus will shift to the sixth edition of the Men's EHF Cup final tournament as four remaining participants of the Ottostadt Magdeburg EHF Cup Finals will learn their semi-final fate on Tuesday 2 May at 11:00 hrs local time.
Lutz Trümper, the Lord Mayor of Magdeburg will conduct the draw together with Martin Hausleitner, the EHF Secretary General. The whole event will be streamed live on www.ehfTV.com and the EHF’s Facebook page.
The Ottostadt Magdeburg EHF Cup Finals hosts SC Magdeburg are so far the only confirmed team for the final tournament.
Following the first quarter-final leg matches the defending champions Frisch Auf Göppingen took a big step towards securing of the ticket courtesy of their away wins at Chambery Savoie Mont Blanc Handball (30:27), while last season's runners-up Füchse Berlin have a mountain to climb after their clear 20:28 defeat at hands of RK Nexe in Croatia. Thanks to their 37:23 home win against Fraikin BM Granollers another French team Saint-Raphael Var Handball are very close to return to the final tournament.
