The EHF European Masters Championships are to return to Austria for the first time since the inaugural event was played in Vienna in 2003. A decision of the EHF Executive Committee will see Innsbruck play host to the event from 7 to 10 June 2018.

The 15th edition of the event has been awarded to the Austrian Handball Federation with local organisation from the Tyrolean Handball Federation.

The all-time record number of 63 Teams from 19 countries will be competing in five age categories.

In the men's competition the teams are divided into three categories, +35 (11 teams in two groups), +45 (16 teams in four groups) and +50 (16 teams in four groups). There are two age categories in the women's competition, +33 (6 teams in one group) and +43 (14 teams in two groups).

Following the preliminary round and the main round, the first two teams of each group qualify for the semi-finals which will be played on 9 June.

At the 2017 Masters in Gondomar, Portugal, the Portuguese Gaia Porto Masters women's team won the +33, while Angyalok triumphed in the +43 competition and the Hungarian side can add the third title in a row in Innsbruck. Porto Masters won the men's +35 event, the Budapest Old Boys the +45 competition and Odessa from Ukraine the +50 tournament.
