EHF Congress 2018: Federation representatives from across Europe arrive in Scotland as two-day event begins

EHF Congress opens in Glasgow

The EHF Congress has opened in the Scottish city of Glasgow. Representatives from 47 of the EHF's member federations are attending, in addition to the two associated federations, England and event hosts, Scotland.

EHF President, Michael Wiederer, opened proceedings together with the Scottish Handball Federation’s Chief Operating Officer, Stevie Neilson, who welcomed delegates to Scotland.

Also extending a warm welcome to Scotland was Jamie Hepburn, Member of the Scottish Parliament, who is Minister for Employability and Training and was previously Minister of Sport in Scotland.

The morning session dealt with reports from the last two-year period since the last congress and including presentations from Michael Wiederer, EHF President; Martin Hausleitner, EHF Secretary General; Bozidar Djurkovic, Chairman of the Competitions Commission; Jerzy Eliasz, Chairman Methods Commission; Ole R. Jorstad, Chairman of the Beach Handball Commission; Francesco Purromuto, President of the EHF Court of Arbitration Council (ECC) and Helmut Höritsch, Education & Development - Senior Manager, who presented the work of EHF CAN (Competence Academy & Network).

Henrik La Cour, EHF Treasurer, also presented the budget report for 2017 and 2018 and Alain Koubi presented the report of the EHF Comptrollers. The financial report and business of the EHF Executive Committee was subsequently accepted by Congress.

At the conclusion of the morning session, member federations confirmed Robert Prettenthaler (AUT) as a member of EHF Comptrollers and elected Thomas Ludewig (GER) as substitute in the EHF Comprollers.

The afternoon session will deal with motions to the Congress from the EHF and member federations. The EHF EURO 2022/24 decisions will be made in the morning of Wednesday, 20 June 2018.

Live coverage from Glasgow is available on the EHF Twitter channel and as well as the EHF Facebook page.
