Czech Republic win Men's 20 EHF Championship in Montenegro

The Czech Republic dominated their final against Austria to win 27:17 on Sunday in Podgorica, Montenegro, at the Men’s 20 EHF Championship where the hosts managed to end on a positive note, winning bronze.

Matchday 9: Finals, 5-11 Placement Round

Final: Czech Republic vs Austria 27:17 (14:7)
On the final day of the preliminary round, Austria beat the Czechs 29:22 to leapfrog them into top spot in their group and confirm their qualification through to the next round but today, in the final the Czech Republic got their revenge and showed their real strength as they won by 10 goals after leading by seven at the break.

Marin Kopic was shown a red card after picking up his third two-minute suspension in the 48th minute, but Austria could not repeat their strong victory earlier this week.

3/4 Placement Match/Bronze: Montenegro vs Latvia 29:23 (12:11)
Host nation had something to celebrate about in the end as Aleksandar Bakic (six goals) and Aleksa Perisic (8) led their side to victory against Latvia in the third-place play-off. Three days ago, Montenegro beat the same team by four goals in their preliminary round.

5/6 Placement Match: Turkey vs Netherlands 31:36 (15:15)
Doruk Pehlivan scored 12 goals but it was not enough for his Turkey side to push on after a deadlocked (15:15) break against the Dutch, who pushed ahead to take fifth place. Pehilvan also fell short in the top-scorers chart and had to settle for second place in that. Florent Bourget-Jans had an eventful match, scoring nine goals but then receiving a direct red card in the 40th minute.

7/8 Placement Match: Kosovo vs Slovakia 27:26 (15:12)
Drenit Tahirukaj scored nine goals for Kosovo as they ensured they ended the tournament on a victory after they beat Slovakia by one goal.

9/10 Placement Match: Bulgaria vs Moldova 35:34 (16:16)
Moldova beat Bulgaria in the group stage by four goals (28:24) to consign their opponents to bottom of the table but the Bulgarians got revenge today, squeezing a one-goal lead to end the competition with their first win.

Moldova’s Roman Dodica won the best goalscorer award in Podgorica with 64 goals, ahead of Doruk Pehlivan (TUR) on 60 and Kristian Vasilev (BUL) on 58.
