Tbilisi teeming with young handball hopefuls at Men’s 18 EHF Championship
Georgia is set to host a Men’s 18 EHF Championship for the second time in a row on 10-19 August 2018.
Tbilisi’s Olimpic Handball Arena is once again the venue for the 11 competing teams. Their 35 matches will be streamed live on ehfTV.com and can also be followed with the EHF Live Ticker.
Playing format
11 teams were drawn into two groups, one of six teams and the other with five, with each team playing each other on 10-16 August. The top two teams from each group will progress to the semi-finals on 18 August, with the final on Sunday 19 August, while the remaining teams will compete for positions 5 to 11.
Promotion and relegation between the EHF EURO and the EHF Championship level takes place at these under-18 events. The winners of the Men’s 18 Championships will be promoted to the Men’s 20 EHF EURO and the Men’s 18 EHF EURO in 2020.
Two years ago, hosts Georgia finished seventh of eight teams in the competition, and the new crop of players will be aiming for a better return in Group B, which features the runners-up of two years ago, Belarus.
Group A is lead by Switzerland, who were relegated from the top flight two years ago. They will face stiff competition from FYR Macedonia and Faroe Islands, who are proving increasingly capable of competing at this level.
Group A: Switzerland (SUI), Faroe Islands (FAR), FYR Macedonia (MKD), Estonia (EST), Lithuania (LTU), Luxembourg (LUX)
Group B: Belarus (BLR), Italy (ITA), Finland (FIN), Greece (GRE), Georgia (GEO)
