The social side of handball: last week in review

However, teams and players are still tending to their social media channels, with more insightful posts coming week by week.

Playing computer games to unwind, social campaigns and a maiden win for a Finnish side. Everything is covered in this week’s social media review, where teams give us a peek at other side of handball.

PSG's gamers

It is usually said that men are just big boys, but a game of FIFA is a far cry from just a simple toy.

The gaming bug was caught by Adama Keita, Nedim Remili, Sander Sagosen and Dylan Nahi, who enjoyed themselves after the win against Flensburg. In a game featuring PSG vs Leicester, the handball stars were closely supervised by professional players, Maniika and Arsene F5.

Another week for the unbeaten stars

PSG are the only team with seven wins out of seven games in the VELUX EHF Champions League. With another week in review, take a look at what the French side prepared for their fans this time.

Raising awareness  in the local community

It is always nice to see players mingling with the community and this is exactly what Celje Pivovarna Lasko had in mind when they partnered with the Slovenian police to raise awareness about the zero-tolerance policy for drink-driving. Winger Gal Marguc and back Matic Groselj had free tickets for the next games for the drivers who respected the rules.

A child’s joy

A home match is always a perfect opportunity to have the players’ kids join them on court afterwards and Rhein-Neckar Löwen’s midweek win against Montpellier saw them celebrate with the locals. Gedeon Guardiola’s kid jumped in as well and was a hit with the fans.

Focus on the youth

CSM is a local club, sponsored by the Bucharest municipality. The senior team is just the tip of the iceberg, with more than 1,000 children playing handball at different age levels for the club.

However, the kids not only have the chance to see their idols play in the Women’s EHF Champions League, but senior players always take time to go to training sessions or schools to provide guidance. Recently, it was left back Bianca Bazaliu who taught some kids how to shoot during a school visit.

Historic win, historic quote

Sunday was a historic afternoon for Finnish handball, as Riihimaen Cocks won their first VELUX EHF Champions League game. There were tears of joy shed after the 31:29 win against Thun, while Teemu Tamminen, probably the most eccentric player in the European top competition had some words of wisdom after enjoying his first ever win.
