MIDWEEK PREVIEW: Montpellier seek their first win of the season at home against Löwen, while Flensburg aim to ruin PSG’s 100% record

French-German double-header highlight midweek card

Two games featuring a German side facing a French team highlight the midweek encounters in the VELUX EHF Champions League.

While Montpellier try to stop their rut against Löwen, who defeated them by a ten-goal margin last week, Flensburg seek to inflict the first loss of the season for PSG, who are on a seven-game winning streak.

Elsewhere, Plock travel to winless Thun with the aim to go clear at the top of Group D and take a big step towards the play-offs.

GROUP A
Montpellier HB (FRA) vs Rhein-Neckar Löwen (GER)
Wednesday, 14 November, 20:45hrs local time, live on ehfTV

  • Montpellier are the only team in Groups A/B without a win after seven rounds
  • the French side is in the middle of their worst run without a win in the VELUX EHF Champions League
  • Löwen can earn their fourth win in a row on Wednesday, only one shy of their historic record in Europe's top flight
  • the two sides met last Wednesday in Mannheim, as Löwen took a comfortable 37:27 win against the title holders

GROUP B
SG Flensburg-Handewitt (GER) vs Paris Saint-Germain HB (FRA)
Wednesday, 14 November, 18.45 hrs local time, live on ehfTV

  • in the reverse fixture on Saturday, PSG won at home by just one goal, 29:28
  • over the past three seasons, Paris lost twice in Flensburg: 32:39 in 2015 and 29:33 last season
  • the French champions are the only team with the maximum of 14 points in the Champions League after seven rounds
  • Rodrigo Corrales, PSG's goalkeeper who suffered an ankle injury on Saturday, should miss out

GROUP D
Wacker Thun (SUI) vs Orlen Wisla Plock (POL)
Thursday 15 November, 20:00 hrs local time, live on ehfTV

  • Plock returned to the top of the group with a narrow win over Elverum on Saturday
  • Thun missed their best opportunity to win a CL match after seeing a four-goal half-time lead disappear in the loss to Cocks
  • the two sides met in Round 1, which was a comprehensive 34:24 victory for the Polish side
  • Wacker’s inconsistent attack come up against the joint-best defensive record in the competition, but they will be encouraged by the fact that Plock have lost two of three away matches to date
