The social side in handball: last week in review

A huge gesture of fair play, a nice connection at Vardar, a borrowed celebration for PSG highlight and a load of classy goals highlight our overview of the week’s best social posts about the VELUX EHF Champions League and the Women’s EHF Champions League.

Another nice gesture from Vardar

Vardar’s position in the local community goes way beyond being a handball club, and this week the Macedonian side have once again delivered. On the ‘World Day of Kindness,’ Vardar visited a school for children with disabilities. The players spent an hour socializing and playing with the children, on an emotional day for both.

A borrowed celebration

Moving on to France, PSG have come up with another viral video, during warmup for one of their training sessions. This time, Adama Keita celebrated a goal like French football star Kylian Mbappé usually does. The 21-year-old player PSG left wing is considered one of the hot prospects of French handball.

Elverum’s moose

Winning against Dinamo Bucuresti, coming back from a one-goal deficit with 25 seconds to go, was Elverum at their best on Sunday. The Norwegian side can still dream of proceeding to the group phase knock-out. While their win was dramatic, here is another funny social media post from the Norwegian champions, who dressed a moose in their colours before the start of the game, spending a bit of warmth as winter is coming.

Fair play rules the VELUX EHF Champions League

During a high-profile clash, Vardar’s Slovenian playmaker Stas Skube showed how much fair play and sportsmanship mean in handball. As his club played Barça Lassa last week, Skube prevented Dika Mem from getting a two-minute suspension for a foul that wasn’t worth one. Skube had a short talk to the referees, who then overturned their own decision. Appreciating the gesture, Barça awarded Skube a fairr-play award when both teams met again this weekend.

Offendal and Gensheimer scored the best goals

Odense’s Nadia Offendal and PSG’s Uwe Gensheimer scored the best goals of the round. But it would be a shame to miss out on eight more beauties, which also made it into the Top 5 Goals from the Women’s and the VELUX EHF Champions League.
