Szeged set sights on top spot

Following their win over PSG over the weekend, MOL-Pick Szeged can claim top spot in VELUX EHF Champions League Group D with a win against Flensburg on Wednesday.

There are two midweek matches from Group D, both of which play a role in deciding who finishes in the two play-off places as top side Plock head to Finland and second place Dinamo visit Thun.

GROUP B

SG Flensburg-Handewitt (GER) vs MOL-Pick Szeged (HUN)
Wednesday, 26 November, 19:00hrs local time, live on ehfTV

  • Both teams won last weekend, as Flensburg took the points in Skjern and Szeged inflicted their first defeat to Paris
  • In the first leg between the two sides, Szeged won by two at home, 30:28
  • Szeged could move to the top of group B, if they were to win on Wednesday
  • Flensburg’s best scorer in the competition is Holger Glandorf (30), seven goals less than Szeged’s Bence Banhidi (37)

GROUP D

Riihimäen Cocks (FIN) vs Orlen Wisla Plock (POL)
Wednesday 28 November, 18:15 hrs local time, live on ehfTV

  • Cocks aiming to end their debut season in the group phase with a second victory
  • Plock have already secured a spot in the play-offs, but need at least a point to guarantee first place
  • The reverse fixture saw Plock win 34:18, the largest victory in the group to date
  • This is the last opportunity for current top scorer Nico Rönnberg to add to his 64-goal tally

Wacker Thun (SUI) vs Dinamo Bucuresti (ROU)
Thursday 29 November, 20:00 hrs local time, live on ehfTV

  • One final chance for Thun to claim a win after they once again saw victory turn into defeat in the final minute against Elverum last weekend
  • Dinamo are in pole position to claim the second play-off spot, but still need a result as both Leon and Elverum can overtake them in case of defeat
  • A draw for Bucharest will leave them relying on a draw between Leon and Elverum, while a victory guarantees progression
  • Dinamo’s top scorer Amine Bannour has been out of action since the match against Leon in Round 7 and remains an injury doubt for this clash
