The social side of handball: last week in review

A new week, a new set of action-packed games in the VELUX EHF Champions League, but the teams did not stay put on social media and relied solely on game-coverage.

The best social media posts include a car-written team name, how can you win a training session with a world champion and the little things coaches and players do on their way home after an impressive win.

How coaches relax after a huge win

David Davis is one of the happiest coaches in the VELUX EHF Champions League. The Spanish ace was surely in a tough spot when he took over a demotivated Veszprém team, but a five-game winning streak has brought the Hungarian side back into the fold. They currently sit second, after the 29:27 win against Vardar and Veszprém’s social media team has uncovered the perfect way to celebrate a win on the plane back home for Davis. Playing a game of skill is not so much different than handball, but Davis looks to enjoy himself and is as good as he is on the Veszprem bench.

A Valentine to forget for Kielce

Valentine’s Day was celebrated throughout the world last week and Europe’s top clubs did not hold back from joining in. Here is a lovestruck PGE Vive Kielce’s mascot before the game against Montpellier. Unfortunately, the Polish side lost against the title holders on their home court, but still hold the fourth place in Group A.

A training session with Mensah

Mads Mensah Larsen is one of the two world champions in Löwen’s roster, alongside coach Nikolaj Jacobsen. The German aim to pay back their loyal fans, while also seeking to promote the 27-year old’s performances by inviting their ticket holders a chance to take part in a training session with Mensah.

How to write your team’s name in…cars

One of the most active teams on social media, Meshkov Brest, had a lot to thank their fans for, after they supported them throughout a nine-game winless streak. However, the tides have turned the weekend, as the Belarusian side repaid them by winning against Löwen, 27:24. Their arena was sold-out and promotional clips like this certainly help.

Ice in Wanne’s veins

Drama is one of the key ingredients of handball as there was plenty of it last Wednesday, when Flensburg hosted RK Celje Pivovarna Lasko. The German side won by the narrowest of margins, 27:26, thanks to a goal from left wing Hampus Wanne with three seconds to go. It was not the cleanest, but the ball hit the post and slowly entered the goal, as the Swedish player scored his eighth goal of the game.

PSG’s week in review

Last, but not least, let’s see what PSG have been up to this week, in their weekly review. The French side need only one point to secure the first place in the group and a quarter-final berth, as they make big strides towards a return to Cologne.
