The social side of handball: last week in review

Video content is king once again in the social media review, as Barça Lassa produced a spectacular coverage of their line player, Ludovic Fabregas, who also topped the best goals reel from the VELUX EHF Champions League.

An out-of-the-box birthday wish, some special gifts for David Davis and a photobomb also made the cut this week in the social media review.

Fabregas’ Spanish connection

Born in Perpignan, some 35 kilometres away from the French-Spanish border, Ludovic Fabregas has kick-started his career in Montpellier, after spending his first years with Banyuls, another team that is based close to the Spanish border. Therefore, a move to Spain was a logical step for the 22-year-old line player, whose Spanish heritage is highlighted by this film from the media team of Barça Lassa. Fabregas’ family opens up about the life of the defensive ace, who can also score superb goals. But more on that later.

A special gift for Davis

Spirits are high and adrenaline is running through the veins of Veszprém’s players, after their sixth win in a row in the VELUX EHF Champions League. The Hungarian side can secure the second place if they do not lose on Saturday against Kielce and the players acknowledged how new coach David Davis changed the outcome of the season for the team. However, last week’s game against Brest was not easy, as Veszprém had to come from behind after the Belarussian side led 10:9 at the break. Therefore, playmaker Petar Nenadic even had a special gift for the Spanish coach, a baseball bat, to remind the players never to sleep again on the court.

(Not) A happy birthday for Kulak

Playmaker Artsiom Kulak was Brest’s top scorer against Veszprém last Sunday with four goals, yet his side could not stop another win for the Hungarian team, 28:20. Not Kulak’s performance was what caught our eye, but the creative way of Brest’s social media team to wish him a happy birthday. Kulak turned 23 on the game’s eve and it would be interesting to see how he would cope with playing all dressed up in the VELUX EHF Champions League.

Snap of the week: how Balaguer celebrates a win

Photobombing will probably never get old and pictures like this surely explain why. The sheer joy of wing David Balaguer is there on display, as Nantes enjoyed an impressive 29:26 win against MOL-Pick Szeged in the Match of the Week of Round 13. Nantes are fourth in the group, only one point behind Flensburg, the team that they will play against on Wednesday.

“No comment.” Again.

Bored with PSG’s recap of the week? We are still not, as the French side celebrated winning the group, after their victory against Celje, 36:32, and Szeged’s loss against Nantes. Sneak peeks into the team’s training sessions and exclusive footage from the games are on the menu, as PSG’s “No comment” video is again one of the highlights of the week.

Famous fans for CSM

They might be out for the season, but Cristina Neagu and Amanda Kurtovic still hope that CSM will earn a Women’s EHF FINAL 4 berth later this season. They supported their teammates both in trainings and in the game against Györ on Saturday, but the Romanian side could not stop the Hungarian powerhouse to extend their unbeaten streak to 19 games, as Györ jumped to a 27:25 win in Bucharest.

Another week with superb goals

We talked about Ludovic Fabregas earlier, here are some highlights of why he is silently becoming one of the top line players in Europe. A magnificent goal from Barça’s ace tops the list this week, with shots from Vardar’s Timur Dibirov and Brest’s Simon Razgor also selected.
