Danish teams dominate quarter-final line-up

The Women's EHF Cup has reached the quarter-final stage, with Denmark strongly dominating the competition as four of the eight remaining teams represent the country.

The first leg of the quarter-final opens on Friday in Ikast, where Herning-Ikast are set to host Croatia’s Podravka. Three more games are scheduled for Sunday, including the Danish derby between Nykøbing and Viborg. Three of the four matches will be streamed live on ehfTV.com.

QUARTER-FINAL

Herning-Ikast Handbold (DEN) vs HC Podravka Vegeta (CRO)
Friday 1 March, 19:00 hrs local time, live on ehfTV.com

  • both teams ended the group phase on eight points

  • Herning-Ikast finished runners-up to Siófok in Group B, Podravka topped Group D

  • Herning-Ikast’s Helene Fauske is the leading scorer with 50 goals

  • Podravka also faced Danish opponents in the group phase, Nykøbing, with both teams losing their home match

Kuban (RUS) vs Team Esbjerg (DEN)
Sunday 3 March, 16:00 hrs local time, live on ehfTV.com

  • Kuban were the only Russian side to reach the group phase

  • Kuban are still without Evgenii Trefilov following the coach’s heart surgery

  • Esbjerg confidently topped Group C with 11 of 12 possible points

  • Esbjerg's Serbian centre back Kristina Liscevic played for Kuban during a part of the 2016/17 season

Nykøbing Falster Håndbold-NFH (DEN) vs Viborg HK (DEN)
Sunday 3 March, 16:30 local time

  • Viborg have won all 12 matches in the competition, starting all the way back in Qualification Round 1

  • from all quarter-finalists, Nykøbing scored the fewest goals (151) in the group phase

  • 5th-ranked Nykøbing defeated 7th-ranked Viborg twice in the Danish league this season, 32:22 away and 32:26 at home

Storhamar Handball Elite (NOR) vs Siófok KC Hungary (HUN)
Sunday 3 March, 18:00 hrs local time, live on ehfTV.com

  • it is the only quarter-final tie with no Danish team

  • Storhamar finished second in Group A after claiming just one point from their first two matches

  • Siófok won all six games to comfortably top Group B

  • in the group phase Siófok had the best attack (188 goals scored) and the joined-best defence with Esbjerg (139 goals conceded)
