Tough competition inspires top performances in Round 4

With every team now having faced each other in the group phase, lessons were clearly learned and tactics put in place, which led to a number of tight encounters in Round 4 of the Men’s EHF Cup Group Phase.

Top game
TSV Hannover-Burgdorf vs Grundfos Tatabanya KC 27:27

For the second time this season, Tatabanya struggled to close out a match. Having lost against Nexe in the first round after leading for 58 minutes, last week in Hannover saw them pick up a point after 55 minutes of great handball.

The clash was a true nail-biter. No side could extend their lead to more than two or three goals before being reeled in and the spoils were shared at the end.

Top player

TTH Holstebro’s Magnus Bramming is almost unstoppable in the Men’s EHF Cup as he leads the top scorer list with 54 goals, ahead of Adrian Figueras on 45.

Despite Bramming scoring more than 10 for the third consecutive game, his side lost 32:29 in Porto.

Top team

FC Porto Sofarma’s dreams of advancing to the quarter-finals have almost come true. Magnus Andersson’s squad lead the competition in scoring with 137 goals and the latest win over Holstebro extended their perfect record to four wins.

Top quote

THW Kiel’s coach, Alfred Gislason gave great praise to opponents GOG after their second consecutive battle:

"In the last 15 minutes we needed to play hard to get the two points. But then a player like Duvnjak showed how important he is for us. So, I’m really satisfied with my team today and that we are going to play the final tournament at home.

“I am sure, that the young players of GOG, Møller, Lindenchrone and Lærke, will someday be world class players. Also the wings, the Icelandic player Rikhardsson and Emil Jakobsen on the other side are very talented players."

Top action

Magnus Landin and Niclas Eckberg scored 12 goals between them as well as combining for this spectacular play, which left GOG keeper Ole Erevik unable to do anything but watch the ball fly in
