VELUX EHF Champions League begins with club workshop

The two-day workshop, held at the Radisson Blu hotel, enabled EHF Marketing GmbH and the European Handball Federation to outline changes and updates in a variety of topics, including competition rules, communication, sponsorship, marketing and implementation.

Officials from clubs, including EHF Champions League debutants Eurofarm Rabotnik of North Macedonia and IK Sävehof from Sweden as well as last year’s champions Vardar, were given an overview of what to expect for the 2019/20 season before master classes were held detailing further information regarding this season’s competition.

The annual workshop also gave EHFM and the EHF and participating clubs the opportunity to maintain and strengthen their working relationships and discuss best practice.

EHF Marketing Managing Director David Szlezak said: “Workshops are an important tool for us to convey key messages to clubs and for them to express their feedback ahead of the upcoming season.

“Any competition in any sport always strives to develop and improve and we are no different. We believe fruitful and engaging collaborations such as this are the best way of achieving this.

“It was a hugely positive two days in Cologne and I am looking forward to an exciting season ahead, starting next week.”

Vardar honoured at Ball of Fame

On Tuesday, 2019 champions HC Vardar saw their achievement honoured on Tuesday with the installment of their second glass column at the Ball of Fame in Cologne.

The Macedonian team’s victory over Telekom Veszprém in June’s final was Vardar’s second title in three years after winning the 2017 edition.

Vardar’s glass display is the 10th to be installed outside the LANXESS arena in Cologne where the Ball of Fame sits. The permanent eye-catching structure was erected in during the 10th VELUX EHF FINAL4 this year to recognise the past winners of handball’s premier European club competition.

Season to start next week

The wait is almost over for the start of this season’s VELUX EHF Champions League, with the first match, the Scandinavian derby between Finnish champions Cocks and IK Sävehof taking place next Wednesday, 11 September.
