Landin shines as Denmark celebrate a winning start

Last year's finalists of the world championship and two of the hottest contenders for the EHF EURO champion title made successfull first steps on the opening day of tournament in Denmark.

While the sold-out crowd of 14,000 spectators in Herning's Jyske Bank Boxen celebrated a 29:21 win of the defending champions over Macedonian team, the reigning world champions Spain defeated Hungary 34:27 in Aalborg's Gigantium.

In the first match of Group B and of the whole tournament Iceland gained both points in the Nordic derby with Norway (31:26) as Aaron Palmarsson scored the first goal of the tournament but had to leave the court after he had injured his ankle.

Surprisingly, Austria recorded the most impressive start to the championship as the beat their northern neighbours from the Czech Republic 30:20, in what had been supposed to be a tight fight for a victory.
